What is occupational therapy?

Helping you live life on your terms.

Occupational therapy (OT) helps people of all ages participate in the everyday activities — or "occupations" — that matter most to them. Whether that's self-care, work, study, leisure or caring for family, our occupational therapists work with you to overcome the barriers that get in the way.

At Aevum, OT sits alongside physiotherapy and neurological rehabilitation as part of a connected, multidisciplinary team — so your care is joined up, not fragmented.

How we help

Practical, goal-led support.

Our occupational therapists assess how you manage daily tasks and design practical strategies to make them easier and safer. Common areas of support include:

  • Regaining hand and upper-limb function after stroke or injury
  • Cognitive strategies for memory, attention and problem-solving
  • Home assessments and equipment recommendations
  • Assistive technology and adaptive devices
  • Return-to-work and return-to-study planning
  • Building routines that support independence and confidence

Frequently asked questions

Common questions.

What does an occupational therapist do?

An occupational therapist helps you develop, recover or maintain the skills needed for daily living and independence. At Aevum, our OTs specialise in neurological conditions, helping with fine motor skills, cognitive rehabilitation, home modifications and return-to-daily-life programs.

Is occupational therapy covered by NDIS?

Yes. Occupational therapy is a core NDIS-funded support. If OT is in your NDIS plan, Aevum can provide services at our Kirrawee and Helensburgh clinics or via home and community visits.

What conditions do occupational therapists treat?

Our OTs work with stroke recovery, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions, as well as general functional rehabilitation.

Do I need a referral for occupational therapy?

No referral is needed for private OT appointments. For NDIS-funded sessions, occupational therapy must be included in your plan. We also accept DVA and some private health fund referrals.
