What is a Game Ready Machine and How Can It Help Recovery?

By Aaron Babb · 17 February 2023

The Game Ready Med4 Elite combines cold therapy and compression to accelerate recovery after surgery and injury — a piece of equipment that's become a valuable part of modern rehabilitation for managing pain and swelling in the acute phase.

How Game Ready works

Game Ready combines two well-established recovery principles — cold therapy and pneumatic compression — into a single device. Cold water circulates through a wrap around the injured area while intermittent compression is applied, working together to reduce swelling, manage pain and support the body's natural healing response more effectively than ice alone.

Why cold and compression together?

Cold therapy reduces blood flow to the area, helping control swelling and numbing pain, while compression helps move excess fluid away from the injured site. Combining both, with the precision of a controlled device rather than a bag of ice and an elastic bandage, produces more consistent and effective results.

When is it used?

Game Ready therapy is commonly used immediately following surgery (such as knee or shoulder reconstruction), in the acute phase after a significant soft tissue injury, and for managing swelling and pain flare-ups during rehabilitation from various injuries.

Benefits for recovery

  • Reduced swelling — helping keep the injured area comfortable and mobile sooner
  • Pain management — often reducing the need for pain medication in the early recovery phase
  • Faster progression through rehab — less swelling and pain generally means earlier progression to active rehabilitation exercises
  • Consistent, controlled therapy — more precise than traditional ice packs

Part of a complete recovery plan

Game Ready therapy supports recovery, but it works best alongside a structured physiotherapy program — addressing strength, movement and function once the acute swelling and pain have been brought under control.
